A bucket of.....

Hi everybody!
I hope you're all having a lovely week :)
I saw this beautiful rose a couple of days ago in a public garden:
There were quite a few of them. I went back a couple of days later to see if they had opened up and somebody had stolen every single one of them :( People can be so selfish. If they'd have left the roses where they were supposed to be everyone in the town could have enjoyed them. Still, I suppose someone's house is looking and smelling very nice right now!
Here is a shawl I made quite a while back before I had this blog. I never took any real photos of it so today I got out my mannequin and took a couple of pics:

Really, I got the shawl out to wear it because it's just the right weather for a shawl here at the moment and before I put it on I decided to take some photos :)
My final pictures today are of a bucket.
Not too exciting....huh?!
But wait until you see what I'm using it for.....

That's got to be the best kind of bucket there is, right? It was a free gift at the supermarket last week and when I saw it I knew exactly what I'd be using it for!
It's a bit plain at the moment though so I'm planning on making some flowers to stick to the side and maybe a crochet handle. I'll keep you posted :)

Crochet in every room

So, recently I have been trying to put a little bit of crochet in every room in our rooms and bedrooms are easy to fill with crochet....afghans, cushions, decorations :) I love to see little crochet details in these rooms!

The bathroom posed a slight problem but I fixed that with my granny bath mat which is still going strong 3 months on :) And now I had the kitchen left until I made this:

It's a pot holder!

I'm still trying to use up this pink dk cotton.

It looks cute as a candle holder too, don't you think? :)

Elise shawl and something new

I finished the first of my CALs yesterday and today I've taken it off the blocking board. Here it is:
It's my 4th Elise Shawl. I love this pattern!
I made some tassels for it using the Juliana Wrap pattern. The tassels in that shawl are great for holding it in place when worn to the front which is how I normally wear my shawls.
This is what it was like before blocking:
Blocking really does work wonders sometimes!
Now for the 'something new' part of the post.
I've tried knitting quite a few times but I've never really got very far with it. The cast on was always a big slow down for me, the times I'd tried it I found it very tedious.
But my mom got me a huge book on knitting last year and one of the ways to cast on is called the thumb cast on which looked easy enough so I gave it a go:
Yay! I cast on some stitches and it only took a minute!
They even look like the photo!
There are so many beautiful knitting patterns out there, especially for shawls, and I've love to learn but I find two needles so awkward compared to one hook.
Does anyone have any great tips  or websites you could recommend?
Have a lovely weekend!

Red crochet earrings and a question

Here is one of my latest creations:
Red lace earrings with a little pearl bead.
I used lace weight merino yarn and a 0.75mm hook to make these.
They were a fast project and I love having some bigger earrings that are really light.
Now for the question:
How do you stiffen your crochet projects?
I've tried sugar starching which has worked really well but I don't want to that with earrings - I have visions of me being outside wearing my crochet earrings and having bees chasing me :)
These particular earrings I stiffened using clear nail polish after reading about it on Pinterest but I don't like it too much - the smell of the nail polish took a whole week to disappear.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Pink and purple

I haven't blogged or visited any blogs for a week but it feels like so much longer. I've been busy and I had a migraine attack which means I haven't been online much but today I'm going to spend as long as possible catching up with all my favourite blogs :)
But first here are some of my newest creations:

I'd got some cotton yarn left over from another project that I wanted to use up. It's a really pretty pink, purple and blue mix which matches with a lovely gift I got given for my birthday. Can you see the purple and pink hearts? They are chocolates attached to a cute photo frame which was a gift from a friend of mine (thank you Brunella!)
So with the left over yarn I made a flower
Which I'm using as a mug coaster:
And two flower brooches which, after I'd finished crocheting, I embellished with some rose quartz chips:

Apart from that I've been working on two CALs at the moment...
....because one just wouldn't be enough! They are both shawls, one is with a 4 ply sock yarn and  the other is a lace weight merino/silk blend.
